PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE USE OF OUR PUBLIC LANDS

At EQ, we strongly believe that Earth Day should be celebrated every day. More than just a corporate goal, it's a way of life, a shared passion, and a collective responsibility we’ve all set out to embrace as best we can.

As part of our "Eco-champion" series, we wanted to feature the individual initiatives of our colleagues from around the world and the different ways that they are contributing to a greener future, to spread the word and inspire. Today’s topic centers around the importance of promoting responsible use of our public lands, seen through the lens of our Karachi colleagues.

EQ : Promoting responsible use of public land

Promoting responsible use of public land is essential for persevering natural resources, ensuring public safety, and maintaining the overall health of the environment. Land use significantly impacts overall well-being and plays a pivotal role in achieving environmental sustainability, economic growth, and social inclusion objectives. It influences the environment, public health, economic prosperity, wealth distribution, social outcomes, and the appeal of urban and rural areas. Notably, land use practices have substantial implications for mitigating climate change, contributing to roughly one-third of human-generated CO2 emissions.

This inspired our colleagues to visit Deosai National Park in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan, with the aim of leaving the park better than they found it by picking up litter. Khizr Iqbal, Finance Manager, stated, “Our motivation for organizing this initiative was to contribute to the preservation of scenic sites and nature. EQ is all about making an impact, and each one of us shares this commitment. Engaging in an activity in a tourist and nature-centered area was a meaningful way to demonstrate our dedication and personal beliefs”.

EQ : Safeguarding ecosystems - Why we should promote responsible use of our public land

Promoting responsible use of our public land is crucial for numerous compelling reasons. It underpins the preservation of our environment by safeguarding ecosystems, conserving biodiversity, and mitigating climate change. Responsible land use ensures the sustainable management of valuable resources, supports local economies, and contributes to the well-being of communities through leisure and outdoor activities. By protecting wildlife habitats and ecosystems, responsible land use maintains ecological balance and enhances overall quality of life. Ultimately, it significantly contributes to realizing sustainable development objectives and achieving a balanced coexistence between human needs and environmental preservation.

Lead the way, not the social trail

Respecting public lands, whether they are national parks, oceans, or any other natural areas, involves adhering to various principles and practices, including embracing the Leave No Trace (LNT) principles. While collecting trash along the trails, our dedicated team members minimized their impact on the environment, followed area-specific regulations, and diligently stayed on designated trails and camp site area to protect the park's fragile ecosystems. Their ethical wildlife viewing and low-noise approach ensured minimal disturbance. So, whether you're actively exploring in person or connecting with nature from the comfort of your own space, we're all part of the collective effort for responsible land use and the preservation of our natural treasures.

In conclusion, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to our dedicated Karachi EQ team for their commendable efforts in conserving Deosai National Park. While they were actively involved on the ground, the rest of us may have been contributing in various ways as we all play an essential role in our commitment to responsible land use and environmental preservation.
